Genie the Weaver
About
My studio nestles in the wine grape country of Oregon's Willamette Valley. It has 3 large windows with views of an oak grove, a grain field, a vineyard and a well-loved old farm house with its pear trees and flowers. Within the studio is a loom, an array of yarns, potential ornaments and one woman passionate about color and fabric.
Genie Stewart
One of the exhilarating aspects of being an artist is perpetually having opportunities to respond tangibly to experiences through the creation of something which reflects both those moments and oneself.
Over the years I have learned that what captures me most in ours and other cultures will move through my senses, my mind and my hands and emerge in the weaving or jewelry.
Clothing
Clothing has been my main focus. Although fabric is woven in a plane, my visions are dimensional. I've explored many techniques, colorways and garment designs later to revisit them in a new light. Primarily the fabrics are a combination of cotton, silk, tencel and rayon working together.
New & Noteworthy
Genie's work is currently featured in Sunset Magazine (Feb, 2016 issue).
Wall Art
In contrast to Genie’s professionalism in her weaving career, her friends know and appreciate her playful approach to life, exemplified by her annual birthday tradition of joyfully turning cartwheels in the sunshine. This playfulness and passion for color and fabric make each piece she creates vibrate with lightness and spirit!
